Head For The Hills

Buy Tickets

The shared vision amongst the members of Head for the Hills is not only to carry on the spirit of bluegrass, but also to expand the general definition as we venture through the post-traditional bluegrass era. Head for the Hills draws significant inspiration from the sounds of the bluegrass forefathers such as John Hartford, David Grisman, or Bill Monroe, but also appeals to anybody who enjoys experiencing the excitement, innovation, or element of youth that is incorporated into each and every performance.

After several career defining sold out performances in Fort Collins, CO, performing to capacity crowds in Colorado & beyond, consistent national touring, and appearances at music festivals around the country, this quartet is emerging as a mainstay in the roots music community.

The foundation of Head for the Hills stretches back several years to the mountain town of Golden, Colorado, but the current lineup prefers to call Fort Collins, Colorado their home. In their short but prosperous career, Head for the Hills has performed, supported, & shared programming with such notable acts as: David Grisman, Sam Bush, Leftover Salmon, The Flaming Lips, Bruce Hornsby, Yonder Mountain String Band, Emmylou Harris Nickel Creek, Tim O’Brien, Peter Rowan, Doc Watson, and Railroad Earth among many others.

OakHurst

Take a string band and swap out the fiddle player for a groovy drummer and you’re well on your way to understanding the sound of Oakhurst. The band spikes traditional bluegrass with rock & roll and a kamikaze rhythmic sensibility. That danceable concoction along with banjo vs. mandolin shootouts, three part harmonies, and citybilly swagger keeps the band in high demand. Oakhurst’s unpretentious, go-for-it interpretation of a genre that’s often handled too reverently, sparks interest in bluegrass by folks who don’t know Doc Watson from Doc Holliday.

Oakhurst’s road hardened sound has taken them far beyond the boundaries of Colorado. The rockin’ bluegrass quintet has played everything from major festivals to City sponsored events… from floating festivals in the Caribbean to private parties on mountain tops… from bluegrass festivals in the Appalachians to Chateaus in the Champagne region of France… In fact, the band has gotten around so much they have been joined on stage by Zac Brown, Shawn Mullins, Marc Broussard, Ed Robertson (BNL), Kym Warner (Greencards), Pete Wernick (Hot Rize), Vince Herman (Leftover Salmon) & Andy Falco (Infamous String Dusters) to name a few.

The band's latest album, Jump in the Get Down, received airplay on over 200 radio stations nationwide. The spins not only earned the quintet spots on the Americana, Bluegrass and Jamband charts, but an even larger national following. That hybridized, hard-to-categorize sound has also gotten Oakhurst nominated by Denver’s Westword Magazine 5 years straight as the best band in 4 different categories. Oakhurst captured the “Best Bluegrass Band” honor against stiff competition & earned the independent artist of the year award by Mile High Music Store as well.

Oakhurst’s broad appeal and nebulus stlye has earned them spots on lineups with very diverse national talent. The fact they have shared bills with with the likes of John Mayer, John Hiatt, The Flaming Lips, The Avett Brothers, Brett Dennon, Emmylou Harris, Barenaked Ladies, Patti Griffin, Yard Dogs Roadshow, Bela Fleck, Gaelic Storm, G. Love, Yonder Mountain String Band, Umphrey’s Mcgee, The Radiators, Indigo Girls, Lyle Lovett, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Johnny Lang, Bang Camaro, & Guster is good testimony that the band can entertain virtually anywhere and to anyone.

GUTTERMOUTH

God loves little Children, Combat Medics, Retarded people...and Guttermouth. Throughout the course of their Lives the members of Guttermouth have respectively survived a myriad of the most heinous of messed up ailments that biology can inflict upon one group of Punk Rock Miscreants: a drunk driving incident where a telephone pole fell upon a member and crushed his spleen, lungs, chest, and broke both femurs (Mark); a bout with Necrotizing fasciitis (fleash eating Streptococcus) which almost claimed a member's lower leg and life (Mark, and Kevin); an infected Abcess of the tonsils, the disease that killed George Washington (Ryan); Recurent Anaphylaxia from an unknown allergen that continues to plague him to this day (Ryan); Strabismus, (commonly known as lazy eye) a condition where the eyes are typically not aligned with each other causing incurable vertigo (Don); Cytopenia: A condition where blood flow to the lower extremitiies is constricted to the point of Paresthesia (numb legs * Scott) and Alcoholism, a condition where too many Newcastle brown ales cause you to hit on ugly fat girls and listen to "The Cult" on your Ipod at 4:30 in the morning while your roomate is trying to sleep (Kevin); However, Throughout all of these hardships Guttermouth are stil alive...and still dying...slowly...but rest assured Gutttermouth may just overcome these desperate ailments to bring a show to you...Guttermouth will persevere. Nay...Guttermouth will CONQUER THESE HARDSHIPS! THEY WILL OVERCOME THESE TERRIBLE AFFLICTIONS THAT NATURE HAS BESET UPON THEM, THEY WILL OVERCOME THE RIDICULOUS IDEA THAT THEY ARE SPECIAL JUST BECAUSE THEY'VE BEEN KINDA SICK SOMETIMES...GUTTERMOUTH WILL PREVAIL OVER ALL, BECAUSE...BECAUSE...because it's better than getting a real job.
With Chaser and Die Ignorant!

Strange Design

Buy Tickets

Phish is arguably the most inventive, virtuosic band to make an impact on the world in the past 25 years. Blending elements of classical and jazz composition with a wide variety of musical styles, Phish has successfully paved their way into history by touring the world with high-energy rock concerts worthy of being celebrated for years to come.

Forming in the void between Phish's retirement and their triumphant 2009 return, Strange Design has been dedicated to celebrating the rich career of Phish by recreating historic Phish concerts in their entirety. Much like the way in which Dark Star Orchestra performs sets from the expansive Grateful Dead catalogue, Strange Design performs entire shows from the first twenty years of Phish's career. This approach has helped set them apart from other Phish tribute acts and garnered them critical praise: "This is not a band that plays its fourteen favorite Phish covers -- they study and re-enact full concerts from an era when the band was the most dynamic force in live improvisational music...This is a band that makes it alright to admit you were a Phish die-hard, and will probably leave you recounting your favorite tour stories to complete strangers after the encore..." (Nick Levy, The Brooklyn Revue).

Strange Design has been heralded as the premier tribute to Phish, bringing phans the opportunity to relive their favorite concerts and learn about archived shows that they may have missed. Strange Design offers phans an opportunity to request their favorite shows on their online Phorum and brings an impressive, nearly flawless interpretation of some of Phish's most memorable performances to intimate venues around the country. With an uncanny ability to perform Phish's music and improvise in the moment, Strange Design promises

Zepparella

Buy Tickets

Welcome to Zepparella, four women intent on bringing the passion, the beauty, the aggression, the musicality of Led Zeppelin alive.
Zepparella delivers an explosive, emotional musical journey at every event. They take on the challenge of balancing their devotion to playing the songs as close to the original as possible, while taking advantage of their own musical communication and carrying the audience away on the ride.
The combination of personalities in Zepparella is something extraordinary. From the first time on stage there was such a strong musical connection that to the girls it felt like a homecoming. And in a musical career, that kind of connection may be the most elusive gift of all.
The players:

Anna Kristina, the popular Bay Area stage actress, vocalist, songwriter and solo artist, brings her seductive style and powerful range to front the band with consistently transcendent performances. Her soulful delivery is mesmerizing. For a list of her many projects and accomplishments, visit www.annakristina.com

Gretchen Menn applies her dazzling and emotive guitar playing to the leads. After her stint as Agnes Young in the top-grossing Bay Area band AC/DShe for three years, and then touring as the second guitarist in the national metal band BOTTOM, she now takes on the Page lines with an arresting ability that can’t be missed. Her current solo project, Sticks and Stones, showcases not only her guitar playing but also her remarkable songwriting skills. www.myspace.com/sticksandstonesrolls www.myspace.com/sticksandstonerolls

Nila Minnerock’s seminal bass playing, dark, beautiful, aggressive, melodic, fills out the bottom end of the band. Her joined-at-the-hip connection with Clementine began eleven years ago in BOTTOM, and close to 20 trips around the US, Canada and Europe and three records have created the remarkably intuitive rhythm section that Zeppelin deserves. Nila also brings her rich melodic and experimental sense to compositions of electronic music for tango and soundtracks. www.myspace.com/achzicherz www.myspace.com/achzicherz

Clementine tackles the best rock drumming ever written with her own powerfully passionate style, bringing the Motown influence of the Bonham groove to the forefront. As Phyllis Rudd in AC/DShe and throughout the run of BOTTOM, she developed a heavy-hitting sound suited to attempt Zeppelin. The musical connection established with Gretchen in AC/DShe and the lifelong rhythmic conversation with Nila creates the bond required to do this great music justice. In her solo project Francis Bakin, she fronts the band as main vocalist/songwriter. www.clemthegreat.com www.clemthegreat.com

KZYR Listener Appreciation Party w/ Back Yard Tire Fire!

Okay, here’s the skinny: The scheming corporate vampires and piggy-bankers have waddled away in a silent-but-deadly cloud after gobbling their fills at the public trough, leaving the rest of us poor schmos to pick the corn outta their poop and call it lunch. The whole stinkin’ economy is burning with the eternal, icy blue flame of corruption, and we’re down here with…what?

LIFE, for one great big thing—HEART and SOUL and ROCK’N’ROLL, and we got Ed Anderson and his able co-conspirators in Backyard Tire Fire to remind us that ALL OF THAT counts for way more than all the high-ticket stuff you can sneak out the back door.

With their fifth full-length disc, Good To Be, Backyard Tire Fire have achieved one of those big-time, long-haul records that matter far more than the sum of its considerable parts—and not via grandiose, larger-than-life lyrical imagery but through blue-collar, common sense miniatures that remind us of the simple beauty present in mundane, daily, person-to-person experience—a reminder that the hard work and struggle that these times are so dead-set about avoiding are the only actual treasures, the only worthwhile endeavors that bear fruit of substance.

Which is NOT to say that Good To Be is yet another one of those one-dimensional, granola-rootsy, rustic Americana takes on post-Uncle Tupelo barn-board rock; there is a taste of that, to be sure, but Anderson & Co. have spread the stylistic court with a rich, ever-expanding palette of aural rock ‘n’ roll colors and textures that tap into bouncy, Kinks-meet-Squeeze Brit pop-rock, Tom Petty-styled Southern rock, Beatle-esque majesty, intimate balladry, chiming folk-rock and heartland/populist chest-pounders. Bearing a consistent message of empathy, humanity and hope, Good to Be is a triumph of Anderson’s own thirteen year journey as a rock and roller.

Based in Bloomington, Illinois, Backyard Tire Fire have worked the national circuit tirelessly, sharing stages with fellow-travelers Cracker, the Reverend Horton Heat, Govt. Mule, Alejandro Escovedo, James McMurtry and Los Lobos.

Good To Be, due to drop February 16th on the band’s own Kelsey Street Records (distributed by Thirty Tigers/Red), was recorded in luxurious, hand-tooled analog with Los Lobos’ Steve Berlin producing.
