10:00 PM The Soular System
Buy Tickets Welcome to your new obsession...
Bringing an ear for consummate musicianship and an eye for provocative lyrics, The Soular System combines the songwriting ideals of yesterday with the vogue design of tomorrow, while maintaining a variety of styles embedded in Funk.
Sometimes political, sometimes spiritual, sometimes sexed to the nth degree, Rev. Desmond D'Angelo's "eclectrospective" lyrics stretch around the colorfast canvas of sound painted by Ral's bass strokes, Mike Maloney's guitar spray and Jes Bradley's drum splatters. The music is then adorned with percussive keyboard melodies sculpted from the ivory of Danny Bedrosian and framed with the finest brass of Roth Rothenberg, Pedro Pizarro and the Damn Diz.

10:00 PM Rise Up Reggae w/ DJ WEEZ DJ Jahstone and LIVE MUSIC w/ DREAD DAZE!
FREE SHOW! $2 RED STRIPE
Pulling reggae apart and putting it back together again with a libleral dose of hip-hop, a dash of rock, and a whole lot of soul, Dread Daze tunes up the positive vibrations and turns traditional reggae on it’s ear. The powerful sound they bring forth is uniquely their own, and their music speaks their truth in no uncertain terms.
Di Wall, Dread Daze’ beautifully crafted debut album, literally explodes with songs like “Right Now”, “Stand Up”, and “Murder in the Name of Religion”, that challenge the status quo and urge people to question, understand and take action. “Kitty” and “NiteTime” get listeners out of their chairs and onto their feet -- just in time to bend and move to the traditional reggae vibes of “Morning Time” and “Danger Signs” before slowing down and slipping into Ital Soul where lead vocalist Najashi seduces listeners with his steamy twist on a Motown-inspired love song.
The brainchild of lead vocalist, Najashi, who hails from a talented musical family and gets his reggae vibes via his Jamaican upbringing, Dread Daze was conceived in Los Angeles, but is a child of the world stage. Their authentic desire to use their music to open minds, change vibes and spread a message of peace and unity shines through in every song and has captured the ears of listeners across all genres as well as promoters throughout the U.S. and around the world. Dread Daze’ exudes raw energy on-stage and forges a strong bond with audiences worldwide, while their huge grass-roots following and spirit of collaboration make them widely sought after – as evidenced by countless shows in clubs, festivals and other venues throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe.
Together, Najashi (lead vocalist), Brian Ward/Belfast Posse (guitar/vocals), Donu (drums), DJ Thergood (DJ/percussion), and Billy (lead guitar),Carlos on keyboards form Dread Daze. Individually, they have made their mark in the music scene performing with legends such as Steel Pulse, Arrested Development, Pato Banton, Eek A Mouse, Half Pint, Mikey Dread, Wailing Souls, The Abyssinians, Don Carlos and many more. They’ve also recorded with members of The Black Eyed Peas, Jurassic 5, James Early of M.C Hammer’s first album, and more recently recorded in the infamous Hitsville West, a.k.a. Motown Studios, where legends, Marvin Gaye and The Jackson 5, once created music history.

10:00 PM Sand Section & Fortunate Youth
Buy Tickets Don't miss a great night of Southern California Surf/Rock/Reggae Music!
SAND SECTION takes its name from the area of Manhattan Beach, California where the band's three members grew up. In recent years, "sand section" has become a term used by real estate agents to denote the primo lots that abut the town's vast sandy beaches, but in the case of this ambitious three-piece band, the sand section is the border -- Where the suburban sprawl of greater Los Angeles gets pounded every moment by the deep blue Pacific Ocean-- Where a relaxed sun-soaked lifestyle collides with the infinite power and possibilities of the sea. Hence, the band's eclectic and melodic mix of bright coastal music combined with the dark undercurrents of the storm-out-at-sea punk music they played when they first got together ten years ago in middle school.
Jeff Nisen (guitar, vocals, harmonica), Tony Gonella (bass, vocals, percussion) and Sam Mandelbaum (drums, percussion) came up playing in various bands, including MOSS which had successful gigs at venerable L.A. clubs like The Roxy and The Whiskey. They formed Sand Section in 2008 and spent a year commuting between monthly shows at UC Santa Cruz (Tony’s alma mater) and UC Santa Barbara (Jeff's alma mater). After graduation in 2009, they got down to focusing full time on music. Toward that end, they've been playing every show they can beg, borrow or steal in the South Bay cities of Manhattan, Redondo and Hermosa Beach, often sallying forth into L.A., including a March, 2010 show at the House of Blues in Hollywood and a sold out show at the Roxy in April. These gigs have enabled the band to hone in on their signature sound, and establish a solid local following. They have also been fortunate enough to share the stage with bands such as The Dirty Heads, Slackstring, Tomorrows Bad Seeds, Iglu and Hartley, Common Sense, Sashamon, Tribal Seeds, The B Foundation, and many more over their nascent career.
If you ask them their creative influences, it's best to have a full pint in front of you because you're going to be there a while. Although rooted in punk bands like Green Day Pennywise, and Cigar, their music branches beyond punk to feature lush harmonies, blistering guitar solos, melodic bass lines and a unique drum feel. Among their favorite lyricists are John Lennon and Paul McCartney as well as Greg Graffin of Bad Religion.
Although Sand Section tends to draw upon all genres of music instrumentally, their signature sound is attributed to Nisen and Gonella’s soaring vocal harmonies. Whether it be a piano ballad or a hard rock jam, Sand Section’s vocal harmonies are the backbone and major characteristic of just about every track.
These harmonies were ultimately influenced by artists such as Crosby, Stills & Nash, the Eagles, and Dispatch. Nisen’s guitar playing is attributed to a combination of Slash, Randy Rhoads, Eric Clapton, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, while Gonella draws upon the busy bass lines of Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones combined with both Cigar and the Deviates’ speed-driven punk rock.
Sand Section has often had trouble being classified within the vague taxonomy of genres, and has always focused on making good music for the sake of good music, rather than to fit any sort of idealistic standards. "If we feel like making an acoustic album with all sorts of weird experimental instruments, we want to be able to do it without pissing anyone off," Tony said recently. "Above all else, we want to remain a group of everyday guys making good original music." Beyond that, the band’s potential is as vast as the Pacific.
Sand Section’s debut album, Truth Over Harmony, is set for release in May 2010, and represents the culmination of over a decade of perseverance. It aims to showcase their abilities as not only musicians but songwriters as well. After spending over 6 months in the studio, the band is confident and ready to hit the road and take this world by surprise.

10:00 PM MICKY AND THEMOTORCARS
Buy Tickets Micky and the Motorcars, with their own band of Americana rock, bring an optimism and integrity a band only acquires when its been performing so long the only thing left to tell is the truth.
Eight years and five albums after MMC was founded in Challis, Idaho, the band still writes more than 90 percent of its music as it defines the lives of brothers Micky Braun (vocals, acoustic guitar) Gary Braun (vocals, guitars, mandolin, harmonica) childhood friend Mark McCoy (bass), Kris Farrow (guitars, saxophone) and Shane Vannerson (drums, percussion).
Micky and the Motorcars may be self-described as “a little rough around the edges,” but with its rocking sound, MMC shares real thoughts, is full of depth, and has a honest, raw emotion and energy bleeding through Micky’s heart straight out into the crowd. Anyone who has ever loved and lost or loved and drank or loved at all knows exactly where he’s coming from and what he’s talking about in a sincere, piercing way.
It’s also made Micky one of the most sought after songwriting collaborators on the scene, and consequently MMC songs have credits to brother Willy Braun, Randy Rogers, Cody Canada, former Jack Ingram bassist Robert Kearns who now can be seen backing Lynyrd Skynyrd, as well as Kevin, Dustin and Savannah Welch. Throughout its tenure, MMC’s Braun front men have been quoted repeatedly as “just wanting to play good songs.”
For Micky and Gary, whose genetic musical legacy precedes them, playing and singing is damn near the only life they’ve ever known. The boys grew up in the Western mountains, playing music with their family: older brothers (Reckless Kelly’s Willy and Cody Braun) and father (full-time musician, Muzzie Braun). The boys’ paternal grandparents were both were full-time musicians as well, and the boys watched their father play in his own Braun brother band with their uncles Billy and Gary.
For MMC’s Braun brothers, they hope to create their own legacy — of doing what feels good, what sounds right, and hoping it pays off. So far, it has. MMC has come a long way from playing for free and sleeping on random floors and couches to its most recent debut, “Micky and the Motorcars Live at Billy Bob’s Texas” and adding the three-disc (two CDs and one DVD) compilation to its discography.
The compilation features songs from 2002’s “Which Way from Here,” 2004’s “Ain’t in It for the Money,” 2007’s “Careless, and 2008’s “NAÏVE,” takes the audience member center stage to experience Micky’s edgy, boy-next-door crooning and the rocking licks Farrow throws across a driving beat.
Now, travelling nationwide more than 200 days year, the most rewarding thing for MMC is watching the crowds they perform for with the same raw emotion from the live release get bigger as Micky and the Motorcars head on down the road. There’s an excitement, Gary says, never really knowing how everything is going to work out. But the ups and downs of the road somehow make it all worthwhile for the Motorcars, who don’t have any plans of slowing down.
